Family Counselling

Family counselling is based on family systems theory, which views the family as a complex, interconnected unit where each individual’s behaviour influences the others. When one family member faces a challenge—whether it's a child acting out, a spouse struggling with mental health, or a relative dealing with substance misuse—it can have a ripple effect on the entire family dynamic.

The goal of family counselling is to improve communication and resolve conflicts by helping family members understand each other’s perspectives, address emotional and behavioural struggles, and strengthen relationships.

Family counselling can help with:

  • Improving communication to reduce conflict, frustration, and emotional distance

  • Strengthening relationships through empathy, emotional support, and resolution of misunderstandings and resentment

  • Navigating divorce or separation

  • Supporting families dealing with behavioural issues due to diagnoses like ADHD and autism, focusing on emotional regulation, setting boundaries, and psycho-education

  • Coping with the challenges of living with a family member facing mental health or substance abuse issues

By fostering understanding and providing practical strategies, family counselling helps create healthier, more supportive family dynamics.
